Heterogeneous biocatalytic reduction of 5-(hydroxy)methyl furfural using two co-immobilised alcohol dehydrogenases

The work is about co-immobilization of two dehydrogenases and successfully applying them in the selective reduction of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl) furan (BHMF) with efficient in situ cofactor regeneration.

This research on sustainable synthetic strategies for the manufacture of bulk products was carried out as a collaborative project with the members of Horizon2020-MSCA-INTERfaces (André Pick (CASCAT GmbH), Pablo Dominguez de María (Sustainable Momentum SL)  and Fernando López-Gallego (CIC biomaGUNE).
